Fine Art Award originated to single out the outstanding visual artist
that  hasestablished  their  own  solo  exhibition (one man show)  in any
galleries or museumswithin the year 2007. Applications need not be

This is the first award of its kind to be organized by Fine Art magazine
and is set to become an annual award that will recognize not just a single
piece of artwork but from the entire exhibition to acknowledge the valuable
steps taken in the creation of all art pieces.

The purpose of this award is:-

  • to commend the 6 – 12 months preparation period given by the artist
    to his/her work
  • to encourage and support the creation of art work
  • to promote knowledge, understanding and appreciation of art
to students and the general public
  • to stimulate the interests of artists to exhibit more solo exhibitions

The evaluation of the prize does not stem from trends, criticisms or
appraisals by critics and the public or the success of the sales but judged
from the entirety and creativity used in the work that result in stimulating
youths and the public interest to appreciate art.

For its first year, the Fine Art Award Artist of the Year 2007 has gone to
Kamin Lertchaiprasert with his work “Sitting (Money), 2004-06” and

These two sets of mini sculptures were fully displayed on the floor and
in the wall.“Sitting (Money)” was made from scraps of bank notes with
techniques used for making paper marcher while “Life Everyday” was made
from wood (dead longan trees from artist’s garden). The sculptures came
together from the artist’s pencil sketches journal of ideas and experiences.
A piece a day was gradually crafted throughout the 365 days of the year.
It is apparent, setting aside the visual aspect of the work, that “time” was
intended to dominate the presentation of his work. The simplicity of combining
both written and pictorial messages allows viewers to individually interpret
the work with their own scale of clarity or complexity.Kamin expressed that
“The value of an artwork is absolute by the artist. After that it is the
matter of viewers and consumers.”
